Dr. David Sherman has provided certain tips on how to keep your teeth and orthodontic appliances clean during the straightening process. Feel free to call us at 646-370-3768 and ask any questions you have about our orthodontic treatments in New York, New York.
Interdental Toothbrush
Use an interdental toothbrush (such as Proxabrush®) to clean around and underneath the wires of your braces. The interdental toothbrush gently avoids damaging any orthodontic wires while helping you keep your teeth and gums healthy.
Fluoride Mouthwash
Daily use of over-the-counter fluoride mouthrinses is recommended by our orthodontist for all orthodontic patients. Products such as ACT®, LISTERINE® SMART RINSE® and Crest Pro-Health have all been shown to dramatically reduce the likelihood of both tooth decay and scarring (decalcifications) of the teeth that may occur during treatment.
Cleaning Your Removable Appliance
As part of your daily routine of brushing and flossing, be sure to brush your removable appliance with your toothbrush and toothpaste every day. Food and plaque can build up on the appliance just like your teeth, which is why it is important to clean it each day.
